Digital Footprint

It has happened. I have gone from being a mom who would so much rather that my children were nowhere to be seen on the internet, to a mom who wholeheartedly believes that my children need to have a positive digital footprint.
This year for Christmas, my son’s father had the idea of making a website for Jeffrey. He got it up and running today, just in time for Christmas tomorrow. It is a great site and I love the title…The Jeffrey Experience. When he was around 3 we used to say that we should hand out cards that say, “you’ve had the Jeffrey experience” whenever a stranger met Jeffrey. He is the epitome of outgoing and has a way about him that makes it so there is no such thing as a stranger. At 3 he was in the vault at Van Cleef and Arpels on Rodeo Drive because he struck up a converstation with the store manager. There are so many moments like this, it would take all day to tell them all.
So, if you have a second, please check out his website and even sign his guest book.

This is very impressive! Jeffrey’s impressive too. Food for thought. I know what you mean by going from fear of visibility on the internet to digital footprint. I haven’t gone that far yet but recently I encouraged my 15 to create a Facebook identity when his MySpace account wasn’t working. He’s discovering the connections and feeling less intimidated communicating online than in person – he’s very shy. I’m surprised by what he puts out in his status – thoughtful. He’s able to share who he is in new ways. Even doing some writing about his passion – classical music – and putting it into notes. Maybe it will help him overcome the music geek complex and be more comfortable with that.

That is great. It is amazing how having a voice online can be easier than having a voice in person for some. Jeffrey has a facebook account too. He just got it. It is great for interacting with his acting friends. He, like your son, is isolated somewhat at school because not many people understand his passion for acting and singing. They appreciate his ability and hard work, but don’t really get it.
